Sin-ying Ho
Sin-ying Ho incorporates computer decal transfer images and painted ornaments in her ceramic vessels that address issues concerning the old and the new in terms of communication, language, aesthetics, technology, identity, economy, and power. Extensively trained in traditional eastern and western ceramic techniques, Ho’s sculptures amalgamate the craft of ceramics with high and low end Celtic, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, American and Chinese cultural forms and icons. In Ho’s work her mix of symbolic meanings from old cultures and contemporary icons linked by cyber text and computer language evoke a dialogue about the collisions among cultures and the resulting residue of globalization.
Currently, Ho is an assistant professor at Queens College, City University of New York. She has exhibited in the United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her work Music and Play was collected by the Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taipei, Taiwan. Gibberish was collected by Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
