Wei Kang

A Wei Kang painting is like a scene in a movie. Wei Kang’s mastery of color and darkness is immediately experienced when standing before one of his paintings. From the dark blues of the canvas, bright hues swim towards the viewer creating a visual experience of constant motion. This constant motion represents humanity’s constant pursuit of spirituality and transcends Wei Kang’s images from the canvas into a humanist realm.

Wei Kang lives and works in Shanghai, China. In 1979 Wei Kang invented the rubber pen and rubber pen painting; he was granted a patent by the Patent Bureau of the People’s Republic of China for the associate professor in the Fine Arts Master Degree Program at Donghua University in China. He was shown his art at many museums including National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Museum in China, and Osaka Art Gallery.
