Crossing Art Gallery is pleased to participate in Volta Art Fair New York, with a solo exhibition featuring a selection of new and historic works from artist Qin Feng. The presentation will highlight Qin Feng's expressive compositions serve as meditations on time and motion. His bold brushstrokes lyrically combine the gestural impulses of action painting with the tradition of Chinese calligraphy painting and the artist often playfully pairs the traditional medium of ink with alternative materials such as coffee, tea and oil paint.

Qin Feng is one of the leading artists of China and representative of China’s avant-garde movement. Invited by the German government to curate an exhibition in Germany in order to promote cultural exchange between the two countries, Qin moved to Berlin in the ’90s where he began to fuse Western modernism and the Chinese ink tradition in abstract compositions. At the end of the 1990s Qin Feng moved to the United States and now splits his time between China and in New York. While over the past thirty years he has developed an expansive mode of painting that is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese calligraphy, Western art has always been an important stimulus. Qin Feng uses traditional calligraphic materials but employs his brush with the unrestrained energy of the abstract expressionists. Inspired by his upbringing in Xinjiang, a multicultural intersection of the silk roads, Qin has incorporated Chinese, Uighur, Arabic, and Russian language into his work. The artist’s works have are collected by important museums around the world including the collections of The British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, amongst others. Qin Feng is also the founder of the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing.
